Previously on NotEnoughTECH

(part 1) (part 2)
If you are not bored already, this is the third update on the upgrades. The desk was looking OK already, but I had been waiting for the extension lead to arrive to sort out my power sockets once for all! While the cable management was off the table, I had too much time on my hands and remembered, that I have a graphic tablet I rarely use. It takes too much space and by the time I  need it, the job is done using a mouse.

I thought that would be a great idea to embed it into the desk surface in the same way as I have done with the breadboard. To do this properly I needed to use a router again.

The final drill

If you ever consider doing this, get the access to the router. This is not my last woodwork project, therefore I got the router for myself now. It makes all jobs much easier, and creating the space for the tablet was so swift.

I needed to get a space for the cable (tablet has an option for wireless but…)  and the touchpad switch.  I will be able to cover it up with my mouse mat and use this space when not in use. Both holes also allow me to remove the tablet if needed.

Cables!

I had a problem! The socket is 5m away from my PC. And I need a 5m extension, that ideally has 6 gangs, and a few USB sockets for charging. This basically is not going to happen. The reasonable solution on Amazon was the 6 gang, 5 USB but 1.5 m long extension lead. Fortunately, I have a cheap 10m extension and some soldering skills.
40 min later I was a proud owner of 6m and 4m extension leads and solution to my power issues was ready.  Six screws and 4 zip ties hold this thing up and prevent it from moving.

No more holes

It has been pointed out to me that soon I will have no desk left because of all the holes I have been making. Therefore I  resisted adding the exclusive Arduino workplace… for now. The next up will be some types of vinyl to cover all that MDF board. If I come up with an actual design for notEnoughTECH before then, it may be in the matching colors!!

Until next time!
