Great Scott! Raspberry Pi W with WIFI and Bluetooth

A surprise email came to me this morning. A new model of Raspberry Pi is available for purchase! The Raspberry Pi Zero W  sports a WIFI and Bluetooth connectivity and improved CPU speed. Since both chips are relatively small, it was an obvious choice to add them to the smallest of the boards. This means that your smaller projects no longer will suffer from connectivity issues.

I’m pleased to say my Raspberry Pi Zero W is on its way, and I will be able to show it to you soon! What’s new:

Raspberry Pi Zero W (Wireless) Details:

  • BCM2835 (same as Pi 1) but up-clocked to 1GHz, so 40% faster
  • 512MB RAM
  • Mini HDMI
  • USB On-The-Go port
  • Micro USB power
  • HAT-compatible 40-pin header
  • Composite video and reset headers
  • CSI camera connector
  • 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN
  • Bluetooth 4.1
  • Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)

This is a very welcome change. The board only costs £9.60 with kits available at £15. The Pi Hut expects big order queues and up to 3 days for processing each order. I know from past experience that Raspberry Pi Zero was hard to get, and I believe a similar fate will greet the Raspberry Pi Zero W

You can order yours here.
