Gmail will drop IFTTT very soon

No more IFTTT in your Gmail

I received a sad email a couple of minutes ago. Google email will drop popular automating service IFTTT on short notice. The decision comes unexpected, and it is most likely caused by the security breaches surrounding the Google+.

Gmail drops IFTTT

Thanks to IFTTT you could connect Gmail to auto-save attachments, create reminders, get notifications, stay organized and much more. This functionality will cease to exist by the end of this month. Here is the copy of the email I have received today:

Hello,
Although you don’t need to take any action, we wanted to let you know that the following third-party apps will no longer be able to access some data in your Google Account, including your Gmail content. This change will go into effect starting 31 March 2019.
IFTTT
We are making this change as part of ongoing efforts to make sure that your data is protected and private. These apps haven’t yet complied with our updated data privacy requirements announced on 8 October 2018.
You can always view, manage and remove apps that you’ve given access to your account by visiting your Google Account.
Thanks,
The Google Accounts teamGoogle Email

Recently a lot of services are shutting down, we are told to say the goodbyes to Google+, Allo, Hangouts as we know it and more.h

I’ve never used Gmail for IFTTT myself, but looking at the services tab, a fair share of users found the liking in the very basic rules. It’s a shame to see it go, as the more tools we are given the better our automation setups can be!

Will you miss the service? Let me know if you were using it in a creative way – drop me a comment in this Reddit post.
