Biscuit Thief! – Xiaomi Aqara cube security

Seriously, leave my stuff alone or else!

Thanks to GearBest I got to play with Xiaomi Mi Home devices. I got the hub (gateway), the temperature and humidity sensor and the cube. The Xiaomi Aqara cube is the peculiar one, and after some playing about I thought of a really cheeky use for it. I could be the first person using it this way (probably not, but I have not seen anyone doing it). Just take a look for yourself.

Xiaomi Aqara cube security!

Place the cube on anything you would like to protect: your phone, a book, or perhaps get the notification when kids open the box with the game you have forbidden them to play? Set the alarm and wait for the magic to happen!

How to keep your biscuits safe

The cube can be set as the alarm triggering device. Apart from the listed motion gestures, the cube sends an alert when it is touched. This can be used as a trigger to sound the alarm on your Xiaomi Gateway. The alarm is audiovisual, meaning you can assign the flashing colour, record, pick or specify one of the listed sounds and set the duration lasting from a couple of seconds to the continuous. There will be a mobile alert associated with the breach of the alarm too!

The cube goes to sleep after a minute of inactivity, but if your manual manipulations skills excel the levels needed to get to the brain surgery division, you could remove the cube without triggering the alarm. It’s good enough to make a couple of pranks, get viral on the internet or prevent pesky kids from touching what they do not suppose to. Or you could make a game out of it!

Try it yourself…

I could think of a million uses, trapping family and colleagues and causing the mischief around the house. Let me know your best ideas, I’m curious to know what other things could be done with this little trick.

The best thing about the Xiaomi Aqara cube security is that it works without any software modifications. In addition to that, thanks to how the cube reports back to the gateway, entire Xiaomi Aqara cube security can be actually replicated in NodeRED.
