I was lucky enough to connect with Eric, the marketing manager of PCBway in Hangzhou. Since I’m in China, it would be a sin not to take the opportunity and visit the HQ of the PCBway.
NotEnoughTech visits PCBway
The PCBway HQ is located in the northern part of the city. I took a bus to get there, which was over 1h:30min journey one way. There isn’t anything spectacular about the location, however, the offices are based in a new complex. Everything inside is modern and shiny!
PCBway is a Chinese company specialising in printing circuit boards for prototyping and bulk production. They collaborate with Makerfaires and successfully helped multiple Kickstarter projects to get their feet off the ground.
Whether your project is big or small you can visit the PCBway.com and submit your Gerber file for production. The company supports makers and educational projects with discounts and sponsorships. Check out their page for details.
I talked to Eric more in my spare time about lack of hackspaces in China. Turns out, the mindsets of your Chinese engineers are still in the manufacturing industry. This is why the PCBways customer base comes from the west.
Unfortunately, my trip to Shenzhen got cancelled due to financial reasons. I have an open invitation to come and see by myself how the PCBs are made in their manufacturing plant in Shenzhen. I’d love to take a look next time I’m back to China!
Thanks to Eric for the invitation – here is me and Eric having a good time!
